Mr. Barry Fugate is currently 1st Degree Black Sash in Shaolin Wing Chun. From 1977 to 1986, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Huey helicopter mechanic and flight crew member for rescue operations with over 500 flight hours registered. He was awarded the Air Force Accommodation Medal, was Airman of the Month multiple times, and NCO of the Quarter for the entire rescue wing in 1986.
From 1986 to 1990 he worked at Thermocouple R and D in the manufacturing, marketing, and sales division as a manager for the IPS Corporation.
In 1990, he started a thermocouple manufacturing corporation that specialized in the manufacturing of thermocouples for nuclear application. We also manufactured molybdenum furnaces for the densification of titanium joint replacement for humans.
From 1994 to 1999, he studied Elementary Education and Special Needs Education at Edison Community College and earned an associate of arts degree with high honors. He continued his studies at the University of Dayton to earn a Bachelor of Science with Dean’s List Honors, National Honor Society, and Cum Laden honors.
He bowled at the regional professional level for three years and at local level and amasses over seventy-five series of 700 or higher.
He began his martial arts training under the instruction of Grand Master Benny Meng in Huber Heights, Ohio in 2010 and earned his 1st Degree Black Sash in 2014. He was awarded student of the month in 2012. He also became a Certified Instructor for Shaolin wing Chun in 2015. He helps to maintain the school by doing repairs around the building as well as maintaining the grounds.
