Can't give enough praise to Meng's!
By Diana - Aug 17, 2010
I'm a parent who has spent a lot of time looking into martial arts programs for kids in the Katy/West Houston area. Meng's is such a community-oriented and kid/family-friendly school. The owner and the teachers have achieved a real balance with the students between being warm, kind, fair, and firm. This place has good karma! My son first attended a self-defense class there taught on the weekend, then a year later he was at their summer camp for a week, and after camp, he begged to become a student. He will also be attending an anti-bullying seminar this weekend. They really care about their students here. I can't recommend them enough!

Southern Shaolin Kung Fu
By Andrew - May 6, 2010
I joined Meng's without having much martial arts experience, just some basic kid's summer camp-type stuff in the past. The interest was there but I just never got fully into it. I learned about Meng's from a friend who had done a lot of research and I decided to give it a shot. So far it's been about two months in and I've enjoyed it a lot. Sifu Brad Ryan is very knowledgeable and does a great job at explaining what we are learning. I hear this is a big difference from other schools that just tell you do to something without any explanation. In addition, the fellow members I train with are very nice and helpful, truly a great group of people. The classes are a good size and you often get one-on-one time with the instructor to truly hone your skill. I see a lot of potential in the Meng's family and I'm very happy to be a part of it!

Martial Science

Meng's Martial Arts is not just a martial art school – it encompasses an entire martial art methodology and scientific system; focused on Chinese southern systems, dating back to the Shaolin temple. I have studied martial arts since I was roughly 6 years old. I have studied everything from Karate, Wrestling, Muay Thai, Tai Chi, Aikido and Northern Shaolin. After visiting 27 different schools I finally feel like I have found an institution that can fulfill my needs for excellence in my martial education. Not only is there a very well thought-out curriculum, the methods and teachings learned are battle proven, and have a history dating back to the Ming dynasty; and perhaps further. If you are looking for a professional education, or something for your kids, or even looking to refine your current skills Meng's is the place for you. Striving to maintain high marks in customer satisfaction, Meng's enables anyone at any age to receive a top notch education in the areas they are ... More »

I came to this school looking for something different other than karate, TKD or some form of ju-jitsu. At Meng's, we are taught all ranges of combat as opposed to focusing on a range like the martial arts that I previously stated. There's a vast amount of knowledge whether it's pertaining to martial arts, health, and philosophy. We have classes tailored for martial arts enthusiast to people seeking to fight in MMA setting through Fighter's Track. Come by and try a class, you won't be disappointed!
the REAL way to fight
By aubst - Sep 13, 2009
I have been doing different kinds of martial arts since I was 7 years old, and this school is by far the best I have ever been to. The curriculum is extremely well thought out, and the training is superior to anything I have ever encountered. One aspect that I really find useful is that this is a 'thinking' martial art - not "hit here, strike this, kick now" type of fighting. There is a scientific principle that backs up all of the methods that are taught. Not only that, but you are able to do what you want to do. Training is available for health aspect, the 'art' aspect, self defense, and MMA. While the training is all relatively the same, you're the one who decides what you do with it. There isn't enough room here to write about all that is taught or what you can do at this school. You really need to experience it for yourself. If you want a realistic, down to earth, proven all encompassing martial art, this is the place for you!

Shaolin Kung Fu and MMA!
By Michael - Sep 12, 2009
I drive from Sugar Land to go to this school. In my opinion, there is nothing similar to it around. For Kung Fu, the school provides a complex manual and addresses all aspects of combat in their instruction/curriculum. The school I went to before Meng's had a manual that was literally just pictures of different stances and fists. Our manual is an encyclopedia compared to a manual like that. For students interested in more MMA, Meng's has an MMA/Fitness class everyday that throws you into punching, kicking and ground wrestling on the first day. Most of the Kung Fu students will also do the MMA class to integrate skills and work up a sweat. Master Meng is a frequent visitor to the school. As a student, it is such a great advantage to have Master Meng come to the school several times a year. Take a second to check out Master Meng's bio (
