Seminar in Cincinnati Ohio
Sunday, August 22

Everyone was blown away and I was very impressed by Sihing Lambert’s “ShaoBen Garden” (named after the student that had the idea).  One of his students designed and made a sort of outdoor Shaolin Temple setting.
If I understood correctly, it was set up the same way one of the sections of one of the actual Shaolin Temples is.  Coming down from the house there is a waterfall over flat/layered rocks going down the hill. The walkway came from one side of the house down to the other side and all the way to the training area outside which reminded me of a temple stairway as well.  Then there was a small bridge that went over the water from the waterfall.  There were 2 oriental gates on each side and six posts sticking straight up out of the ground with candles on the top.  In the middle of all of this sits a Yin/Yang made out of rocks (very large ones from a river I think) which were cemented in place.  In the Yin/Yang circle of rocks they had inscribed the 5 elements in the rocks.
I thought the really cool thing is that Sihing Lambert has students that will do these kinds of things for their teacher.  It really shows the respect the students have for their Sifu.

There was a short ceremony introducing the Grandmasters that were visiting and some awards given out.  Then there was a demonstration from a few of the students.  One person did Chi Gong, one did a shaolin form, and one did a basic exercise routine (which I thought he did a very good job).  Then there was a demonstration of a weapons form.  After this we all ate some really good food.  We sat down and listened to Master Meng talk for a while.  Then it was time for the training to begin!
We started out with Sam Chian Po.  After that we did some solo hands drills.  Then we went into some partner drills.  Towards the end Sifu took us through some Niam Jiu (Chi Sau) drills.  We went through a lot of information in a very short time.

At the end of the day we all gathered around the Yin/Yang circle and faced each other in a huge circle.  Master Meng led the last section of the seminar before we all left for the day showing us all a section of a form we had not learned yet.  We would take one step towards each other and go down in a horse stance each time and do the new section, then stand up take another step into the circle, and back down into the horse again.  Our legs were burning by the end.  We did this until we could all touch each other.  This was my favorite thing out of the whole seminar.  It really made me feel as though we all had the Shaolin Spirit with us at that time and that we were training in the temple.  I don't know how else to put it.  It was a great feeling!

Thank you Sifu and Sihing Lambert for yet another great experience.
