"Defeat is a state of mind. No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as reality. To me, defeat in anything is merely temporary, and its punishment is but an urge for me to greater effort to achieve my goal. Defeat simply tells me that something is wrong in my doing; it is a path leading to success and truth."

Dear Students, Parents, and Friends,
First and foremost, I would like to thank all the students that gave Simo a surprise birthday party this month.
Please join us for two special celebrations:
First - tonight we will be having a Black Belt Ceremony in Huber Heights at 7:30pm. This ceremony is for four special Huber students.
Receiving 1st Degree Youth Black Belt: Kobe Lee. He came to our school with a previous background. With consistency and hard work, he has achieved his Black Belt in a very efficient time. First, he had to relearn material from our school system, and then get good at it all. After earning his Black Belt, he will unfortunately be moving due to his father's active duty status in the Air Force.
Receiving 1st Degree Youth Black Belt: Ryan Miller. Ryan has been with me much longer - as a matter of fact, he started out in the mighty might program. Ryan is highly intelligent and works very hard, but at the same time, he took his time in progressing because he's a perfectionist. So now, after many years, he's following in his older brother, Kevin's, footsteps in earning his 1st Degree Black Belt. He's also an active member on our competition/fight team.
Receiving 2nd Degree Black Sash: Missy Pruden. Once she receives this black sash, she will be the highest ranking female currently in my martial art family. She has been a great assistant with the Huber classes, a great assistant coach at tournaments, and a cheerleader and promoter for almost all of our school events. I remember the day she finished her Five Week Intro, many years ago - she said she didn't think she was good enough to continue training. But due to my stubbornness, I insisted that she give a try in a longer program. Now, after years of hard work, with a blood condition, she not only has the knowledge but also the skill as a Second Degree Black Sash. Due to her total involvement, not only is she getting Second Degree in Shaolin Wing Chun but also receiving her 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.
Receiving 3rd Degree Youth Black Belt: Vincent Meng. I remember when I was 12, I was still horse-playing in the martial arts and was many years away from earning my first Black Belt. Now that my oldest son is 12, he's already earning his 3rd Degree! I believe that is the best way to improve the martial arts as well as safekeeping the arts that we love: by helping the future generations better than the previous. After almost 9 years of training in his 12 years of life, I do not believe he took a break longer than a week. His training routine at this moment is almost like a professional: 5-6 days a week, sometimes 2x a day, and some practices are highly intense, not the typical classes with lots of breaks. This is something I never really have to push him to do. He has an attitude to accomplish what he sets out to do.
Both Missy and Vincent went through a four-day testing period, from Thursday to Sunday. Since Vincent was going for 3rd Degree, he actually had to spar 12 matches, each with a different opponent. This was not just against our own student body; he had the opportunity to spar with some of the best in the Nation at the special Peak Performance Training Camps held by my Taekwondo Classmate, and Olympian, Master Christina Bayley. Master Bayley is part of the Peak Performance organization, is recognized by the US Taekwondo Olympic committee, and run by Master Juan Moreno, the US Taekwondo Olympic team coach. Vincent is now officially part of the Elite Peak Performance team under the guidance of Coach Bayley.
I am extremely proud of these four people, so please join us for this special event. I apologize for the sudden notice, but we were just informed that Kobe's family will have to leave town earlier than was originally planned.
Second - our next special event will occur on Monday, September 28th at 7:00p at the Huber Heights City Hall.
Aryal Newman, Taylor Hunt, and myself will be receiving a Special Recognition award from the City of Huber Heights. Aryal was our National Junior Olympic Gold Medalist and Tayor was our National Junior Olympic Silver Medalist this year. Please come out and show your support for these two wonderful, young ladies and their accomplishments!
I would also like to remind everyone that we will be having a special Black Belt Class this Friday from 6p-8p. All Black Belt Club members from all schools are welcome to attend.
Finally, as most of you know, our system is technically complete - we not only teach all ranges and skills, but our fight team members are good as generalists but just as good as specialists. We have a group of fight team members going to a National Jujitsu Tournament this weekend in Indiana. It's about an hour's drive from Huber and we will be leaving at 8a on Saturday morning. Everyone is welcome to join the carpool to support your classmates and watch some great martial arts grappling competition.
Sincerely, Master Meng

Special Training with Master Benny Meng & Sifu Chango Noaks
Having a solid foundation is the key for success in all of life's great things, and there's no exception in the martial arts. Traditionally the practice of "forms" or Tao Lu is essential to any great martial artist’s training.
Long Fist - aka Chuang Quan - is one of the best forms for training the foundation of all martial art skills: it covers all ranges, develops all attributes such as power, balance, and more... and contains jumping, turning, twist, spinning, high and low movements - all in a fluid and explosive manner.
The Special Training will start on Tuesday, December 2nd @ 7:30p. The focus of this training will be on the International Standard Long Fist, which is normally only for intermediate and advance level students.
Anyone interested must preregister in the Huber office by Monday Dec. 1st. This special training will not affect the regular 7:30pm class.
Upcoming Schedule:
Thursday November 26th School closed in honor of Thanksgiving
Saturday November 28th Testing No Regular Classes See office to register and for schedule (10:00 am till finish)
Coming up in December: Tuesday December 8th Master Meng's Birthday
