Saturday 5/16/07 we had the Seminar on Black Flag Wing Chun.  This was the first opportunity I have had to attend a Wing Chun Seminar. We had a lot of fun talking about history, philosophy and concept.  It was very interesting to see how everything ties together.  I found out that there are actually more than just the Red Flag and the Black Flag versions of Wing Chun.  Also there was a separate reason for each one.  Each one served a different purpose.

After that we gathered together and watched and listened as Master Lin talked about the applications and then the hands on of the workshop started. I have been studying martial arts for a while now.  I have talked with and seen many teachers show their skill.  I have touched hands with most of them.  I have been hit really hard by some of them.  I have seen many videos and watched a lot of the YouTube videos.  ---- but, as far as for Master Lin I have never in my entire life seen that kind of power.  I have heard people talk about it, but I have never found anyone who could actually do it!  I was completely blown away.  The power I am speaking of is what we call Faat Jing power.  Generated from a "Whipping" action, similar to the way that the internal art forms generate their force.  This means that there is a big influence from the internal side as well as the external side of the martial arts.  As we were practicing the two man drills, I had the opportunity to touch hands with Master Lin and WOW!!!  He has got some awesome Faat Jing power!!  The most amazing thing to me was that he could generate this kind of force while still talking and carrying on a conversation with us!  He could do this while still breathing normally.  Another thing that blew me away was that you could hear his hands move through the air with a loud “whoosh” from about 15 feet away.  The thing is he can do this from any position with short or no distance several times in a row without getting tired.  Even sitting down!

When I saw Master Lin move his body and show some of his abilities.  At once I realized that everything that I have ever studied or ever heard about in all my studies was in the movements he was doing.  I have never seen that before.  Someone who can do this, teach this, explain it well, and still be very humble is a special person in my opinion. This was a very good Seminar and I want to come back for another one.

I would like to say that I had the honor, and great privilege of being able to spend some time with Master Lin outside of the Seminar.  Master Meng, Master Lin and I spent some time talking about many things ranging from Taoism, to Buddhism, to Internal and External Martial arts, to Faat Jing (Huat Geng) Power.  I will say that Master Lin is very humble and I was impressed with him as a person.

Thank you. Please don't forget to practice as well.
